Full Moon
by James Hyland
Full moon
A full heart
An old trail
On a wagon wheeled cart
Pulled by one mule
His name is Hank
And he likes to sleep
Halfway in the water tank
But tonight, we’re moving uphill
We’re past the Jones’ windmill
Our hearts are beating harder
The lights are getting farther
But there’s a full moon
Got a job
I’m hauling for the rail
I’m moving gold coin
And people’s mail
Tonight
I crossed paths with a Ranger
He says a full moon
Brings lots of danger
The trees
They bend in the direction of the breeze
I’m riding shotgun
You take this job they give you one
But there’s a full moon
My love
Lives in the town ahead
It’s an all-night ride
Until I’m in her bed
But in the trees
There’s a shine amongst the leaves
Here it comes
The moon light gave away their guns
I pull the reins
Say “It’s ok Hank”
I draw my guns
I’ve learned to never hesitate
When there's a full moon
Her hair
It flows like wild cotton
And ever since I touched it
My heart hasn’t forgotten
Before the war
A fortune teller read my hand
She said when you’re in love
Any man you fight is damned
My guns dropped 3
But there were 4 laid about
Just then the ranger showed,
He said I used you to draw them out
Under the full moon
