Hill Country Nights

By James Hyland

Every night, Texas skies, they’ll make you sing

There’s many nights I looked to you wondering what the night would bring

Could tonight be the night that man will walk through the door

And tell me Son, pack it up, you’re done, you won’t play here anymore

Hill country nights and blue-collar days, you take the good with the bad

But I wouldn’t trade one of them nights for all the fun we’ve had

Where barstools turn into thrones, they made you feel like a king

And seeing all them people smile when you started to sing

I’d recognize navy skies over the trees so green

And how you’d feel right at home in a cool hill country breeze

A Texas sky filled with stars, yeah Lord I’ve seen ‘em all

Lord I hope and pray I’ll shine and never fall

Now my body’s beginning to show them years of wear and tear

But I never thought that I’d live this long and see you standing there

Side by side, night after night, we gave it a hell of a ride

I don’t need any damn award to validate my pride

I’d recognize navy skies over the trees so green

And how you’d feel right at home in a cool hill country breeze

A Texas sky filled with stars, yeah Lord I’ve seen ‘em all

Lord I hope and pray I’ll shine and never fall
