Weather On The Wood

by James Hyland

Carrying around an old guitar that smells like cigarettes

I can hear the weather on the wood

Feels like she needs new frets

But it’s still here, where are you?

Does somebody hold you like I used to?

I’m back out on the road, my time is spent so fast

I never know where I am or where I was last

But I feel my way through the dark, I find my way to you

Does somebody love you like I used to?

I try and make a bunch of strangers smile with what I do

It seems to work everywhere with everyone but you

My eyes are heavy my heart is too,

Do you think of me? I dream of you.

Power lines and highway signs there’s open land in view

All it does is remind me how far I am from you

I’ll be away from home I’m just a traveling man.

Will you wait for me? I’m coming home when I can

I’m uprooted in the wind rolling like a wild tumbleweed

I met a friend in Telluride I broke a heart in Tennessee

But I’m so tired, I'm just so tired.

Solo rest of verse

My heart beats with the people I meet

Made a friend around every town.

It seems right when I’m burned-out they kept me burning down

The sun’s coming up, it’s getting warmer out here

It’s good to see California, it’s been a long, a long, it’s been a long, long year
